03 Apr On the Road: Chicago | Native Foods + Recipe!
Native Foods is a fast food chain in the USA doing up “fast casual” vegan fair and it’s the bomb.com
Sadly, it is only available in the USA but with locations spanning the USA from Chicago to LA you may find yourself here someday and you’ll be happy that you did.
Everything is made in-house such as their seitan, tempeh, cheese, sauces, drinks, dressings, and desserts too!
And they’re completely 100% vegan.
I ordered the:
Bistro Steak Sandwich: Native Seitan Steak, thinly sliced and seared, topped with tofu blue cheese, oven roasted tomatoes,
crispy shallots and arugula, on a toasted baguette. 1050$
Native Nachos: Freshly prepared corn tortilla chips, black beans and chipotle sauce, topped with cashew cheese, salsa fresca, roasted corn, green onions, cilantro and fresh jalapeño peppers. 6$
@nativefoodscafe you have stolen my heart….but not my money! This bad-ass plate of nachos was only 6 smackers!! A post shared by Benoit (@plant_based_benoit) on
I was just in the mood for a big dirty sammie so that’s what I got.
The seitan was on point, the roasted tomatoes kept the bread from getting dry and the arugula gave it a spicy kick.
The Nachos – were actually much sweeter than I was expecting, mostly cause of the corn and house drizzled sauce on top, but they were still super tasty, filling and for 6 bucks, can’t beat it.
As if that wasn’t’ enough value, they even offered up a super simple recipe on how to make some homemade vegan cheese!!
Here is a fun little recipe the good peeps from Native Foods had at their Chicago location!!
- 1 Cup Raw Cashews Soaked over night in water
- 1 1/2 TBS White Miso Paste
- 1 Clove Garlic Clove
- 1 Cup Nutritional Yeast
- 1/3 Cup Water
Blend until smooth and Enjoy!
