08 Nov House of Soon Tofu | Vegan Hack
Soondubu Jjigae is a Korean soft tofu stew which I absolutely can not get enough of.
Luckily for me, I live in Koreatown and this soup is easily veganized and plentiful.
Here’s how it works.
Simply ask to use water as the base instead of the standard broth.
Then order a vegetable tofu stew without egg.
Korean food is often served with a bowl of rice and some tasty little side dishes called banchan.
There are many types of banchan and many are naturally vegan!
Kimchi and pickled daikon are definitely not vegan, or even vegetarian, as they contain seafood products.
Simply ask the servers to omit any that may have fish or animal products and you are left with a delicious, hot tofu stew which will really blow your hair back.
This should work anywhere that serves this particular dish.
Should you find yourself in Koreatown, I definitely recommend House of Soon Tofu or Yummy Foods. The service and atmosphere are always welcoming and fun and the food is consistently on point regardless of how busy they are.
AND since they are indeed very busy restaurants, try and be strategic about your timing!
See you at the next meal!
