Calii Love | Eating Vegan at Non-Vegan Eateries

Calii Love is a newly opened restaurant and cafe bar that serves bowls: açaí bowls, poké bowls, and superfood smoothie bowls.

Inspired by the calm and sunny vibes of Hawaii and Los Angeles, the friendly and vegan-knowledgeable staff at Calii Love focus on nourishing their customers with healthy food.

Their bowls are named after positive and uplifting adjectives – if you’re feeling grateful, you can order the Grateful bowl: filled with tofu, green onions, spicy shoyu, edamame, avocado, nori, and wasabi peas on zucchini and sweet potato noodles.

Calii Love’s bowls are customizable and served on little metal trays.

Other vegan bowls include the Cheerful bowl (made with kale, roasted cauliflower, bulgur, coffee pecans, dates, cumin tahini, mint, and yellow beets) as well as their smoothie bowls (minus the honey). If you feel like customizing your own bowl, you can choose your own base and add whatever toppings you’d like.

If a savoury bowl on the menu catches your eye but happens to have a non-vegan protein, the staff can easily make your bowl vegan by swapping it with tofu.

They also have an expansive drink menu including fresh brewed coffee, espresso, turmeric and matcha lattes, açaí juice, cardamom hot chocolate, pressed juice elixirs, and macchiatos. And yes, all their hot drinks can be made vegan with almond or coconut milk – at no extra charge too.

As a healthy ‘fast’ food restaurant and cafe, customers have the option to order their food to-go. But don’t think that the food at Calii Love is lacking in quality just because the restaurant is a quick-service restaurant with a chill “aloha” vibe.

The Calii Love kitchen has a renowned Honolulu chef (Joe Friday) cooking with them. Friday is known for his work at Nobu Restaurant in Waikiki, Honolulu, and is a trained chef from the Culinary Institute of America.

They are partnered with Foodora too if you can’t be bothered to leave your apartment – although you’ll be missing out on the trendy interior of the restaurant (picture tan open-concept layout featuring long chic picnic tables, pastel accents, neon signs, and greenery throughout).

Calii Love also has free wifi and comfy seating: perfect for studying, hanging out with friends, or enjoying an açaí bowl on a hot summer’s day in Toronto.
